Very disappointing

by maggsy , Mar 21 '08
Pros: Cheap
Cons: bulky, uneven baking, poor design lid
After 8 wonderful years of service my Citizen breadmaker was beginning to look like it needed replacing. Canadian Tire had this model on offer Boxing Week and I got it for a great price of $49.95 which unfortunately is the only great thing about it! ...

What a piece of garbage!

by teeveec15 , Mar 30 '08
Pros: It's white.
Cons: Engineered for assured failure or maybe just abysmal quality control, either way it's awful.
My old Walmart brand ( Select Edition ) bread machine has given me years of excellent service but it is starting to look a bit dated so I decided to try out the Black and Decker B2300 bread machine mostly because it was on sale at Sears. I got it ...

No wonder it was on clearance.

by wesmerald , Mar 02 '08
Pros: Traditional rectangular loaves
Cons: Paddles fall off, shaft falls apart, loud beeping, hit and miss mixing.
I bought this as a gift for our family. At first we made a few mistakes common to first time breadmaker users. Once we got things figured out, we began to enjoy some wonderful bread. However, our frustration began to grow as we experienced a very hit and ...

Hated it, took it back
by tiyliNew Member ,Jan 04 '09
Pros: Bread pan is dishwasher safe.
Cons: Noisy, badly designed control panel, poor bread texture, etc.
I bought this bread machine as a replacement for my Westbend when it died suddenly (since Westbend did not support their product).  It was terrible from trying to see the controls to set them (if you make a mistake, you have to start over and, I had to get on a chair with a flashlight to see them) to the texture of the bread.  I experimented with tried and true recipes as well and those that came with the machine, all with the same abysmal result.  The machine is noisy.  The paddles are huge and often got stuck in the bread.  The cake cycle - the recipe given was so small, the paddles we sticking out of the top of the cake!  Plus there is no way to add cooking time and the cake was far from done when the final beep sounded so I had to quickly turn on the oven and finish it in there.  I took the machine back and when it went on sale for half price, I didn't even want it then.

Absolutely hate it!
by ericcrying ,Jun 30 '08
Pros: Easy to program
Cons: Paddles stick, not enough recipes, recipes do not work
I have used a Black & Decker bread machine before and absolutely loved it. Last year I received a Black & Decker B2300 Horizontal bread maker as a gift and was delighted. However my delight was short lived. What a piece of garbage.

There are only a very few recipes. Every recipe I try does not work out. The bread either rises so high that it blows the lid up or the paddles stick in the bread so badly that it takes an excavater to remove them.

I have tried adjusting the amount of yeast and have tried my old recipes but to no avail. Everything made in this machine turns out garbage! Very annoying.

Would love to give it to someone but don't hate anyone enough to do so!

Last one I am buying..
by cocook57 ,Jan 20 '08
Pros: liked the horizontal loaf size.
Cons: Black and Decker is not what it used to be...
This is my third Black & Decker breadmaker. The first one I had lasted me 4 years. It was great. This model B2300 I bought the first one in September 2006 and one month later had to have it replaced. Today just over one year later it has started not kneading and smelling like the motor is forcing itself - the recipe I was using is one in the book that came with the breadmaker. I will be looking to buy another make.

Not a bad machine
by laurasc36 ,Apr 26 '08
Pros: 3 lb capacity, double paddles
Cons: controls a little hard to see
I had a Sunbeam bread machine for 10 years with no problems and when it died I decided to replace it with a Cuisinart. I didn't like the Cuisinart so I returned it and got this one. I really like the 3 lb loaf capacity and the double paddles. The machine works very well and allows me to make large batches of dough, which comes in very handy. The machine is big but not as heavy as my Sunbeam. I also LOVE the fact that the pan is dishwasher safe. I find that the controls are a little difficult to see at times but they are easy to use. I also find that the recipe booklet that comes with the machine doesn't have many recipes...especially the 3 lb recipes. It would be helpful if it did as most of my recipes are 2 lb ones. But aside from that, I'm happy with it and recommend it to anyone.

Bad choice breadmaker
by dgreenbee ,Apr 30 '08
Pros: Good price, many settings, makes large loaves.
Cons: Built poorly, poor service
I have owned two bread makers before buying this one. The first two each lasted eight or nine years. The Black and Decker one I bought five months ago is now sitting idle and broken. I am now eating grocery store bread because the little "c" clip that holds the guide on the post that turns the paddles fell off. Customer service promised to send a new pan and it would arrive in seven days. They meant seven days after they got more in because they are back-ordered. They are likely back-ordered because so many have broken.
When the machine is working it does a good job of baking bread and making dough. It is just not made well enough

Christmas Present
by pneroyc ,Jan 05 '08
Pros: Fairly easy to use
Cons: needs a light to indicate that the cycle has started
I have a 1.5 / 2 lb machine and I bought one of these for a friend as a Christmas gift. After an initial glitch (my fault) the machine made 3 loaves during the festive season that were the best I have tasted. These were 2x the recipe values I used 3lb loaf, but the resultant loaf was much better. The loaves are more like the store shape and of coarse are fresher and better tasting.
I will purchase on of these machines for myself as soon as I find a good deal.

Very Happy
by exner10 ,Apr 30 '08
Pros: It's big and makes a large dough recipe. The duel mixers are an amazing invention.
Cons: The buttons would be a downfall along with not enough recipes that come with it.
I got this Bread Machine for a christmas present. I was given recipes by members of my extended family and I have used all of them and love all of them. The bread machine successfully kneaded the dough TO PERFECTION and made a delicious bread. I love this machine as it is the second bread maker I have ever owned. I will never go back to another machine. This bread machine has done nothing but accomplish the recipes I have made in it. I have no complaints at all. Every recipe out there needs tweaking, any baker knows that. As a previous baker my husband has nothing bad to say about it. He loves the dough it produces.

Brought it back to the store.....
by joybelle3 ,Jan 30 '08
Pros: Looks nice, easy functions
Cons: Bad workmanship
I have been making bread by hand for many years, but find it really ties me to the house on bread making days. So finally buying a bread maker should have been a real treat. I guess I just picked the wrong model. I made two loaves in it, and both did not brown completely on the top. It was only after this happened that I noticed that the lid did not close completely. It lies slightly askew. So no wonder the bread didn't bake completely on top! I called the manufacturer and they told me to take it back to the stores. I will be looking for another manufacturer because if this is a sample of their quality control then I have no confidence in any of their models. They used to be good - I have friends who have owned B&D bread makers for over 10 years - but this new model is a different story.
