Pros: Made a real good loaf of bread first use. Simple controls, it works (No Frills)
Cons: No back lighted screen, very poor manual, non-programmable, no pause mode
The Bottom Line: Does what you want, makes bread, does that well.
Simple no frills operation.
User manual stinks. Use some else's for recipes.
Remember Measure correctly.
My Breadman TR2500BC died read that report for more information.
Replaced it today with the Sunbeam 5891.
Ok it is simple to use, no user defined menus, book sucks big time. Doesn't give times of cycles except basic one only.
So if you want to experiment this ain't for you.
Parts are a little thin but the pan locks with a slight twist instead of those crummy clips that either are to loose or too tight.
Quieter than the Breadman units that I have, tends to rock a bit when kneading but not real bad.
Brad I made using the TR2500C recipe book Caraway rye bread came out great. Download the Breadman book it has good recipes.
Only made one loaf of bread so far but I can tell you it came out better than any I had made with the TR2500C. The TR2200C worked great but the 2500 was never as good as the TR2200C.
Price at Walmart was $43.88 before tax and my sister was there when I called her so I told her to get the only model they had in the stores. It was the Sunbeam. I was thinking of ordering the Zojirushi from Target but the small unit was $180.00 so I need to think about how much I really need the extra cycles and program mode. Actually in 3 years never used it yet.
I will have to update this as I made more stuff but for now at first test it seems a better performer than the Breadman TR2500BC.
What would I like on this unit, I would like to to a back lighted LCD screen for us advanced age reading glasses people.
Ok so whats my take on this unit.
It makes real good bread, simple to use, easy to clean, can't program for your special recipes, doesn't get hot on the outside like the breadman metal line, not as small as the Breadman units here, long term survivability can't really say at this time.
Will be doing pizza dough soon. Hope that works just as good.
Finally for $43.88 it's a good deal. If you just want to make good bread and really measure correctly you will be fine every bad loaf I made was pilot error except for the TR2500BC. I used a given to me Welbuilt no frills unit the TR2200C and the TR2500C the only one I had mostly all bad results with was the TR2500C.
Salton support (who makes it and many other products) is almost non existent. So you are on your own.
If you want a unit you can replace cheaply when you wear it out this seems to be it if you want a unit you can repair then research and see who offers all the normal replacement parts and the prices to replace say the kneader, pan, belts, etc and of course the reviews of real users before you buy a more expensive unit.
From what I see the full size Zojirushi has the best reviews but cost is round $200.00 and the small is $180.00.
Hope this helps.
Update 8-8-2008
Ok first loaf was Cinnamon raisin bread, 2nd was caraway rye bread both came out great. Used the breadman book for those recipes all 1.5 lb loafs.
Soon will try the pizza dough recipe as we make that a few times a month using the tr2200c unit at our other location.
Now there isn't any pause mode on this unit which means if the dough needs adjustment you can't pause it to change the mixture, but remember this is a basic machine and has no add cycle for fruit and nuts etc you have to figure out when to add them on your own.
When adding raisins use only quality ones the raisin bread I made I used walmart brand and they were not sweet so it effected the bread taste. Not caused by this machine.
In every case so far the bread comes right out and cleans very easy. The Breadman units I have the bread always had the paddle stuck in the bread and had to pull it out.
Compared to the breadman units this is very quiet.
So far my opinions are the same.
