Interested in Collectibles.....
or is is collectables? I'm not sure.
But I love pretty glass bowls, and pitchers and candlesticks! Especially old ones and pretty ones, fluted ones.
I'm forever picking these up in thrift stores or at yard sales and just love looking at them and marveling at their workmanship and beauty. I have some Hummels, too, which I inherited.
But I have one little item, oh, I wish I could put its picture on here, that I have no idea what it is. It's like a cup on a pedestal, really rather garish yellow, small, about 6" tall, too narrow an opening at the top to be a vase, too feminine to be a moustache cup and I don't know where to find out about it. The opening is elongated. Really strange.
Does anyone have a suggestion, someplace on the Internet where I could find out something like this?
And, also, I'd love to hear what you collect around your home. I really would.
Thanks,

RE: Interested in Collectibles.....
I love collectibles myself. You sound like me a pack rat I buy things at the flea market and garage sales too.
I found two plates in 3d at the flea market and bought them for a dollar each. I hunted for those plates everywhere and could not find them.
Finally I found one on Ebay by putting in the name at the bottom. One I had bought for a dollar was selling for 59.00 on Ebay.
I found two others at a garage sale but had to pay 10.00 each for them. I am still looking for more, I have two springs one winter and one summer.

Diane,
How do you determine if a plate at a yard sale is worth the $10.00?
I just sort of sense it myself, and yet, I could be very wrong, too.

RE: Interested in Collectibles.....
Lorace, unless you stumble over something that's valuable, the only way to know for sure is to become something of an expert.
My oldest brother, a skilled carpenter and car enthusiast, somehow got interested in North Carolina pottery. He ended up buying and selling several hundred pieces of North Carolina pottery, mostly on E-Bay. He does find them at flea markets and yard sales, but he knows exactly what to look for.
There no replacement for expertise.

RE: Interested in Collectibles.....
Thanks, Bob. You're right, of course. I think what I'm searching for is suggestions for becoming an expert! lol
Truly, though. I did get into Hummels and a few other types of 'nameware' on the web, which is an infinite source for those of us seeking knowledge.
I'll keep searching, though.

Love it! I'd forgotten and I'm no more of an expert than I was then.

RE: Interested in Collectibles.....
I missed your initial question about this.
Hmmm... I have a collection of Isaac Asimov books, perhaps as many as 60 or so. I collect US coins and have been since the age of 10. I have a collection of Beatles stuff, including toys, calendars, books, records, tapes, posters and a couple of oddities. (Most of the Beatles stuff is in a glass cabinet that my wife refers to as "The Beatles Shrine.") I hate to throw out anything electronic, so I have all sorts of stuff (mostly working) going back 35 years. Some of these things may be museum pieces in another 50 years! At least I donate my old working computers.
That's all I can think of but I may have a few collections of other stuff.
