Tech On Digital -- Beware!

We ordered a GPS for a "can't belive it's true" price. We recieved a "confirmation" email which instructed us to call their phone number to "confirm" the order that had just been confirmed. A gruff male voice with a middle eastern accent answered and began asking irrelevant marketing questions: "Was the unit purchased as a gift or for personal use?" When I asked that he just process my order he accused me of "giving him attitude" and abruptly cancelled my order. When my wife tried to re-order, the second order was cancelled, but now they were 6-8 weeks backordered! In addition, our credit card security code was included in the email reply.

I can't believe Tech On Digital is a real business. We are going to report our credit card as "stolen". If it has not been abused, it has certainly been fondled.

Tech on Digital - Scam

Tech On Digital -- Scam!
I ordered a GPS from Tech on Digital for the lowest price on the web. They boast a AAAAA customer satisfaction rating on their web site but you can not click on a link to see what customers have actually stated about their experience with Tech on Digital. I received a confirmation email and thought I would be receiving my new GPS in 10-14 days as stated in the e-mail. A couple of hours later I received a telephone call from Tech on Digital informing me that I had only ordered part of the GPS and the memory card was supposed to be ordered for an additional charge of $119. The online ad stated nothing of the memory card not being included nor having to purchase an extra memory card. I searched additional ads from other internet providers of the same GPS system and the items included in the order were the same as Tech on Digital's stated components.

This is a case of "quote the lowest price" scam and then add needed components that the customer can not compare pricing with other dealers, in hopes of getting a sale at the regular price.

I verbally canceled the order while on the phone but never received any written confirmation of the cancellation. I called Tech on Digital and got a verbal confirmation of the cancellation and was told my credit card would not be charged.

This is a case of "Buyer Beware". Buy from legitimate businesses on the web that are ethical and stand behind their ads and do not try to add additional items to a purchase.

BEWARE OF THIS SITE

After days of research on buying the right digital camera, I ended up on this web page surprised by the low price of my final choice. They actually had the cheapest price I could find on the web but be aware because once you order it and give credit card information, before they make the shipping they will contact you and then try to sell accessories; on my particular case SD memory. I did not need it because I already have one. (guy on the phone was kind of disappointed when I refuse to get the memory card and just hung me up). After sales representative told me that the camera was ready to be shipped I have got an email cancelling my order because item was out of stock. It looks like If you do not get the "extras" the order will be cancelled telling you that item it is out of stock. Good trick, that is a possible scam. I am Very disappointed, they made me loose time. Web page shows item IN STOCK so what is the deal? getting great price on the camera but an expensive memory card? Not worth it. I should buy on a well know web page and pay few more bucks, at this time I would have the camera on my hands. The good thing is that they At least they never charge my credit card, Thank you for that guys. By the way, customer service people on the phone is kind of rude.

Wow same experience

Got the email to call and confirm my order, I thought I might of put in a wrong digit on my card or it was declined for some reason. Then old William gets on and gives me the east coast hard sell for an additional battery and memory card. I had research the battery life prior to making the puchase and got one for $8 not the $69 he was trying to sell it to me for. Then he started pushing the memory stick, I'm bummed now we're leaving for vacation at the end of the week and I'm not sure we're going to get the camera in time. If we get it at all!

Thanks for the save

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical because of the lack of info on their site regarding the product and the high priced accessories. I thought maybe it was just a refurb item and that's why it was a great price. I even told my wife how expensive the accessories were (for not being tech savvy, her jaw dropped). Thanks so much for the heads up. I'm glad I found your experiences online during my research. I fell into one of these traps several years ago online. It wasn't worth the time then and not worth the time now. Dang...I knew that price was too good to be true.

RE: Tech On Digital -- Beware!

This is no joke! I recently bought a $400 camera from Techon Digital for $185 and thought I was getting a great deal. Turns out I was just getting myself into a lot of trouble. I recieved two emails almost immediately from this "company." One was simply a message confirming my purchase, and the other told me to call "James" at 800-958-0054 extention 201 to confirm my order. When I called this number, the person tried to get me to buy extremely expensive batteries and memory cards that I already had, claiming that the batteries that came with the camera had very short battery life and the internal memory was too small. When I argued, the man became very persistant, and finnaly grew angry and hung up on my, only after hastily saying "your order is confirmed." Two weeks later (the camera had a 7-10 day shipping range) and my camera still had not arrived. I emailed the company and threatened to contatct the BBB. I also called again and the customer service rep told me that I had ordered the Japanese version for $185 and the English Version would cost me $319! I told him to hold on while I could go check the website, which said NOTHING about the version I bought being the Japanese version. He told me before I hung up that my order had been put on hold, TWO WEEKS after they had confirmed the order ready to ship. When I contacted them back, the Indian man that answered said he owned the company, but idenified himself only as "Scott," despite my persistant asking of his last name. After all, these people have my credit card number, name, AND address! The man told me that my order had been cancelled and hung up. I WAS FURIOUS!!! Somebody needs to put a stop to these rats. Contact your local attorny general and report this. Circulate emails saying not to buy from them. Post negative reviews. DO ANYTHING YOU CAN! We have to stop these kind og people that make the internet an unsafe place. Please, do all you can. AND NEVER SHOP FROM TECHON DIGITAL!!!
