Chase sucks

I received an offer from Chase for a companion airline ticket. I did exactly what the offer said I had to do. And they never sent me the companion ticket. I wrote them a letter, they responded and said they were sending a companion ticket, and guess what, they never sent it. After 4 or 5 phone calls, I finally gave up. I cancelled my Chase card and will never do business with them.

Chase

I've been with Chase for 14+ years. I had a rate of 5%. I just got a bill where it quadrupled. 20.49%. I called customer service and they seemed a little confused as well. I haven't made any late payments - my credit is excellent. Apparently, they sent out letters to people regarding their new policy allowing people to close their accounts - of have their interest rates become well...loanshark-like. If this is how they treat good customers - I hope they're the next bank to fail. Let me know if there's a civil suit pending. I'll sign up! For all you others in my situation - I strongly suggest finding a decent rate at another bank and doing a balance transfer. I'm sure once your account is closed - you'll get another offer letter from Chase at a normal interest rate. I guess they're called Chase because they want to chase away the good customers.

Chase is Low Life

I have looked at all threads and have not yet seen this situation that has happened to me. But I think we will start seeing it more often. We opened a Chase Balance Transfer in 2004 with a Fixed 4.99% APR for Life on that balance, we have always payed our monthly payment on time and even more than the minimum payment. Today we get a notice saying that beginning Jan 09 our monthly payment will increase from 2% to 5% of our balance plus they will add a service fee of 10.00 a month. In our situation with a balance of 20000.00 our payment will go from 400.00 a month to 1000.00. Wow, what a bunch of jerks. I called them and they actually told me that Chase was not making any profit on our account, because they see that we have not charged anything else since we opened the account. Fortunatly for us we have perfect credit and I have already requested a credit card transfer from Costco, they use Capitol One and give a discount to members. I can't wait to talk to Chase when I close the account.

Chase Nightmare!

I received a Southwest Airlines Chase card last year, have never been late, over etc. Have a credit score in the high 700's. Received a statement in October with an increase in interest rate from 18% to 23.9 WTF?? Next statement in November is 28.99%!! So I call CS to inquire, transferred to 4 different individuals none of whom could answer my questions only to be disconnected after 45 minutes of frustration. Went online to check the next statement I will be receiving, rate is 27.88%?? Needless to say will close account asap. Scary practices...I have never experienced anything like it, can't wait to see Chase fall, and they will...In our region there have been three newly constructed Chase branches in the last year all within a 10 mile radius!!! Guess that's how they cover their construction costs. I will never use Chase or any of their sister companies nor will I recommend them to anyone, in fact plan to share this site and experience with anyone who is even considering pulling into their parking lots! This is yet another example of big business robbing their own countrymen and women. Chase stinks!!

RE: They got me too...

I have never dealt with such rude, unhelpful customer service agents in my life. I once mailed a check payment (because I was out of town without internet access) NINE days before the due date. Chase posted my payment at 6a the morning after the due date and charged me $39. I called and though they admitted the payment was postmarked NINE DAYS before the due date, they claimed it wasn't their fault it posted late.

They (both customer service and "corporate" to which I mailed a letter) refused to credit my account for the one fee. I had been a customer for eight years and never had a single late fee. They treated me like a second-class customer and I closed my account immediately. Avoid Chase accounts!!

Chase sucks

I have read the post and all seem to have the same problem.
I received a new credit card from Chase with a credit limit of $8500. I used the card several times....and would you believe it, it was the same account I already had, but with a different card number. I thought it was a new account. You guessed it...I went over the limit and Yes, interest rate jumpes from 2.99 to 29.9 with a $209.00 interest charge!!!!!!!!!!!! I will not tell you what I told the CS jerks, but I intend to file for bankruptcy just to screw them. What these SOBs don't know is, in the next year, or more, I will receive a huge inheritance. WHO NEEDS A CREDIT RATING. I did contact the Illinois Attorney General and they are about as helpful as a broken leg. Illiois sucks as well. If we all got to gether, we could file a lawsuit against Chase. If we did not win, we would still cost them thousands in legal fees. Class action.

RE: Chase sucks

As a further note. We all need to keep sending our attorney general's consumer fraud division petitioning them to work together to stop Chase fraud. Send Chase to Iran, or force them out of business. Flood the system with complaints.
Please send me your complaints and I will forward them the the Illinois Attorney General. bollivar@yahoo.com Many voices will overcome. God bless.

Beware of Chase Bank if you have good credit and pay on time!

I, too, just received a notice regarding a "Change In Terms" from Chase Bank regarding my credit card. Chase bank enticed me to transfer a balance to them at a low fixed rate (4.99%)for the life of the loan. I took the offer and have done my part by paying on time and even making more than the minimum payments. I have hoped, irregardless of the current stint by Chase, to have the debt paid off soon. I have maintained an "account in good standing" with Chase and everyone for that matter and have an overall FICO credit score in the "excellent" range.

This "Change In Terms" informed me that Chase Bank has decided to add a $10 monthly service fee to my account ($120 a year) and to change my minimum payment to 5% of the balance instead of 2%. Also, the $10 monthly fee will remain on my account, even if I have carry no balance at all. A customer service representative even confirmed that.

When I called the customer representative last night, I said, "It's like you are changing the rules in the middle of the game." Her exact quote back to me was "YES, WE ARE CHANGING THE RULES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GAME."

Today when I talked to a supervisor, she offered to change my balance to a higher rate (7.99%) in order to eliminate the $10 monthly fee and the increased minimum payment percentage. THAT SEEMS LIKE A BAIT AND SWITCH TO ME! To others who don't have the option of going elsewhere or paying off your debt - please talk to a supervisor about this - it is still very, very wrong - but maybe not as costly as the added fees, depending on the amount of your outstanding balance.

In my opinion, based on my experience, Chase Bank's treatment of it's good customers is appalling and unethical. I have already called to transfer my balance elsewhere - WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT CHASE WANTS.

Based on how they have treated me, I can only guess that they only want customers that make them more money by making more purchases, paying late, going over their credit limit, etc.

Again, based on my personal experience, I would advise anyone who responsibly manages their debt, to stay away from Chase Bank. Chase Bank doesn't want you! Getting rid of customers with good credit because they aren't as profitable RIGHT NOW is a short term solution to Chase's problems that will hurt Chase even more in the end.

Trust me . . . you can't trust Chase Bank.

RE: In regards to Chase charging late fees

I made one payment late with Chase. they charged me a 39$ fee and raised my interest rate to 29.99%. I called to ask them to remove the fee and they said NO. I have never been late before, ever..

Affiliates of Chase ???

Here's one for you...
I do not have any open credit card accounts...We have several unused cards in the safety deposit box in case of some awful emergency....Today I received a tiny little piece of paper saying they were going to raise our rates to 29.99%, unless we responded to this tiny little paper and opted out,(which I would of course do) No phone number and 2 weeks to respond ????...We don't have a Chase card, or Bank One...Does anyone know who they have bought or merged with or are affiliated with to date ???... I have a beautiful and very nasty letter for them that I am really wanting to send, thinking that since we do not owe them anything they are not a threat to our credit and maybe this voice can be heard..But I don't know what cards they are claiming so I and can't put an account number on the letter !! Someone in the know of these mergers please let all of us know..I do not want anything from Chase or affiliates touching my life or my stuff..They do indeed suck !

RE: Beware of Chase Bank if you have good credit and pay on time!

Bait and Switch? Changing the Rules in the middle of the game?

I would call it: FRAUD.

These are balance transfers. So they have enticed you into moving the balance to them by offering you a certain rate.

Then after you've moved the balance, they add undisclosed fees and onerous terms.

The "we're not making any money" statement... ummm I'm not a lawyer... is there some law that says unprofitability for one side negates a contract?

(How about: "I used your credit card to buy a machine that I thought would make me money. But it doesn't make me any money. So the borrowing has become unprofitable and therefore I am going to pay you a lower interest rate."??? Of course that won't fly. So why does it fly for the bank?)

And boilerplate fine print that says "we can do whatever we want"... does that negate any obligation to live up to your plain english advertising? Which was "x" rate for life of balance, plus a one time balance transfer fee.

For the first time in my life, I have been googling for class action attorneys. Compared to the penny ante stuff they try to nail credit card issuers on, this seems huge.

And here's the thing: If they can, on a whim, change the minimum payment to 5%, then they can change it to 100%. As in: pay IMMEDIATELY or we'll apply the default rate!!

Ditto with the fee. If they can, on a whim, impose $10/month; then they can impose $100/month.

They are asserting that they have an unlimited right to charge you ANY amount of money they want if you can't immediately pay off the card!

And since the terms and conditions don't explicitly state: "This is a demand loan that we may make due in full at any time for any reason"... I, once again, call it: FRAUD.

====

I don't know what to do about my Chase cards other than attorneys, congress and the Federal Reserve.

I do know this: they're evil and fraudsters. And after a long and happy checking relationship (business and personal) with Wamu: I am searching for another bank.

I honestly can not trust a company with these kinds of practices to take care of my money. It's like having your money on deposit with the local loan shark. Worse, a loan shark with thousands of lawyers who think they're not breaking the law.

====

Oh, and as a taxpayer I just gave them $25 BILLION dollars of my money. To keep the economy afloat. And this is how they respond.

RE: Beware of Chase Bank if you have good credit and pay on time!

I am trying to check this board from time to time. If you do find an attorney that would like to hear a peronal account of my "Bait and Switch/Fraud" experience with Chase Bank, let me know.

A customer service representative told me that the same thing happened to 120,000 other account holders. I'm not alone. I am guessing that most if not all of those other customers were paying on time and fulfilling their end of the agreement honorably, and that Chase bank shocked them with this, too.

As you said, it's like dealing with a loan shark - no codes of conduct exist. It's such a black eye for the banking industry's reputation and for Chase Bank specifically.

Again - do not believe the balance transfer offers from Chase Bank Credit Cards. You cannot trust that they will honor the agreement. I can't stress that enough to anyone reading this.

Trust me . . . you can't trust Chase Bank.

MASS default

As it stands it seems as though many, many customers are going to suffer a "ding" to their credit in some way shape or form as a result of this BS. 120,000 have met the same fate with Chase? Absurd!! Perhaps a mass default would get their attention. Can you imagine what 120,000 defaulted accounts would do?
