Matching books to members
Have you ever come across a book on the store or library shelves that you would love to see reviewed but don't feel you could do it justice yourself?
I've been doing this lately. I've even seen titles here that I felt this way about. Sometimes the books are not in a genre I read regularly (or at all), or it's a subject that intrigues me but not enough to actually read the book.
I often can think of a member that I know reviews a certain type of book that I'm sure would do a great job. I think of suggesting it to them, but never bother.
Do any of you ever wish you could match a book with a member here just to see it reviewed?

Matching books to members
Yes, definitely!
Sometimes it is a matter of wanting to know if that person would like it before I read it. |

I have, on occasion, seen books that that someone else could review far better than me, and I wanted to read the review before getting the book. I have, on those occasions, sent the suggestion to a trusted reviewer and a couple actually followed up on it. Guess it's a matter of reading and remembering who covers what.

RE: Matching books to members
I definitely think of certain members when I see certain books or kinds of books.
But I'm a selfish person. When I see a book I'm interested in, the only person I think about is myself.
I do have a list of members who I would like to see review any books I might publish (without, of course, knowing I was the author).

That's great that they followed up on it. I've wanted to email members that I read all of the time, and am familiar with their tastes, to point out a particular book. I just haven't been able to bring myself to do it yet.

I normally am quite selfish when it comes to books, also. These instances, though, are ones in which I would like to read a review of the book more than I'd probably like to read the book itself.
Or...they are mysteries that are just not the kind I like to delve into, but they are unreviewed in the database. I can sometimes think of a member who normally reads/reviews the type, and would like to make the suggestion.
I'd love to create a list of books that are unreviewed in the database...just a dozen or so at a time...on my profile page (or somewhere). A nice spattering of different genres to just sort of say, "hey, take a look at these unreviewed books...see if something here is of interest to you and try to find and review it."
If it worked, it would start to fill in that vast hole of unreviewed books in the database. I am always amazed to see how many books are SAP'd, when there are so many still available for review. For the most part, during a sweepstakes, I will search out unreviewed books to find rather than SAP whatever I happen to have. This way it expands upon what it already there, instead of leaving all of those blanks and expanding in another direction instead.

I think that's an excellent idea.

matching members/books
Wow- wouldn't this be a really fun premise for a write off? If you'd convince anyone to do this, it would be fun to get to assign a book to somoene else and get a book assigned to you. Wouldn't it? And am I just rambling?
I do think about this, though. There are times when I'll send theworm a link to a book at amazon, or see a book I know Bridgette would review really well.

It would be a fun idea for a write off. I don't think I'd be any good at organizing it, but I'd be willing to participate.

Why, look at this, Danielle. I've apparently gotten your WO started for you. Now, all you have to do is organize it.

Thank you, Cindy. I'd have probably let it go, but it does seem like it would be fun to find out what people would choose for us.
I do believe I've got some work to do trying to figure out how to go about this. I've never put something like this together.
Anyone have any suggestions for how we should match up members once we have them? Or for how to choose books that will be available to everyone?

WO
Aren't I good at volunteering other people for things?
:D
Most WO's can add people as they progress, but this one will obviously need to have a set list of participants before it can get underway.
I was thinking about this earlier, and here are a couple of ideas:
It might be a good idea to ask each participant how they intend to acquire the book. If someone intends to use the library for the book, then the choice would have to be a book which is readily available. If someone will just buy the darned thing on Amazon, that makes a difference, too. Also, it might be possible to give our person the book. I've bought several books which I can't review, and I might consider giving one away to be reviewed.
Something else I was thinking about was the possibility that someone who wants to participate might have published a book. Before this starts, a decision should be made as to whether it is allowed to use the WO as a way to get one's book reviewed. I'm not in favour of allowing that, for what it's worth, but YMMV.
This is going to be fun! I think I want to play when it happens.
