Big Read

Every year the libraries, thanks to the National Endowment for the Arts, participates in the Big Read. I've seen this list for this year. Do you know what your community is doing? This year's books are listed at http://www.neabigread.org/Ibooks/blessmeultima/ I'm personally bothered that there really isn't a book for juvenile readers. Which book is your library considering--do you know yet? I'd like to see us propose our own version of an epinions big read with our own books? What 'cha think? Anyone want to help create a list of 10 books?

A great idea

Buffalo's participation highlights To Kill a Mockingbird, which could be on the list of ten you are compiling.

I would vote for All Quiet on the Western Front. It should be required reading for any society at war or thinking of going to war, which is just about all of them.

When you have your list, how will your event work?

I'm not certain yet. Obviously we can't buy these books for everyone. I was thinking several thoughts: we identify 10 books possibly using a list of classic books for kids. We select a book from the list of 10, write a review, and possibly save the books for a donation to another literacy group similar to what Cindy and Stef did in the fall. I'm still forming ideas and looking for suggestions.

That, or Johnny Got His Gun.

Edited to add a link to the book list for The Big Read
