... if I was the only one who thought that this book was, not only brilliant, but also hilarious?

I ask because Rex (Scmark) has mentioned that while he agress it was a great book, he didn't find it funny. We were wondering if this was a case of British / American humour / ways of looking at things?

Chances are fairly good you and I are the only two here to have read it, Cap'n - the movie came out while I was in middle school, so I'm betting the book was published in the late '50s or early '60s

Earliest publication date at "the River" is 1962. You sure you're not finding the book amusing 'cause it's so antique? (be careful...)
