dgeesaman's Full Review: LG WM2455 Front Load Washer
My wife and I purchased the LG WM2455 front-load washer in late June of 2008. We run it alongside of an LG DLE5955 dryer. After 4 months of use we are pleased.
The overall appearance looks great to me. The white color models will save you some money up front, and years from now I believe they won't look dated. The buttons are easy to read and with the backlighting they are readable in broad daylight or a darkened room. The buttons and main select knob make soft tactile clicks without the strange cranking sounds that older washer controls do. While these controls appear that they will last a long time, only time will tell that for sure.
The unit loads easily and the door stays swung open (it opens to the left!). I have not found any places where the clothes catch or snag within this unit, and I've gone so far as to wash a $275 down jacket in it with success. It unloads well also. Like any front loader, it helps to have plenty of room in front to unload the clothes and place into the dryer that is located to the right of the washer.
The default settings for the Delicates, Perm Press, Regular/Cotton cycles work well for us. I have not tried the antibacterial (extra hot) cycle or other bells and whistles yet. We've used both powdered and liquid HE detergents with success, and the soap receptacle works well and cleans completely after each load. No more dried detergent goo!
I was concerned about vibration and shaking, after reading others' experiences, but ours runs rock solid. Fortunately for us our laundry room does not any anything open below it. Wash cycles take time but always finish before the dryer cycles, so the total time for laundry is not affected. Most of that is due to the fact that it uses a gentler agitation for a longer time compared to a top loader.
It's big, have I mentioned that yet? We're getting more laundry done in less time. I also believe my clothes are wearing less quickly than before, which can add up in a hurry given the cost of clothes. I have never had an unbalanced load or found parts of wet clothing tied together or wrapped around a spindle.
When doing the last load, the interior of the washer remains very wet. After reading about mildew smells by others, we leave the washer door open so that it dries out. Until manufacturers equip washers with exhaust fans I believe this is a fact of life for all front loaders.
It seems to me (keep in mind I'm not a repairman, just a mechanically-minded, well-read consumer) that most problems with this unit come from either using too much detergent, not letting the interior to dry, or both. This strategy has not been inconvenient, so I will continue with it.
